This update fixes an issue which could cause the app to crash when editing book metadata whilst running on iOS 16.0 – 16.3.
Happy New Year to all bookworms out there! Thanks for continuing to support Reading List, and I hope you read some great books in 2025! This update includes the following new features: FILTERS Add book filters to your finished list. You can now restrict your finished list to show just books finished in a given timeframe, such as "During 2025". Tap Edit then Add Filter to set it up. More filters coming in future updates! QUICK VIEW RATINGS See your book ratings directly on the book list screen. This one has been requested by many users, and it's here at last! Tap the Sort button, then toggle Show Ratings to adjust the behaviour. BUG FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS - New option to prevent the app from presenting the edit read state screen when opening a book from a widget. - The lock screen widget shows the current page even when the book doesn't have a page count. - Glitchy autocomplete on certain text fields on macOS has been prevented. - And this update includes many behind-the-scenes technical improvements to help keep Reading List performant and up-to-date. Note: this update drops support for iOS 15, the app now requires iOS 16. This is to allow me to modernise the app's codebase and make it easier to develop. Version 2.7.1 includes a fix to an issue which could prevent the app from launching in some cases when upgrading from an older version. Version 2.7.2 includes a fix to an issue where the Edit Book screen could cause the app to crash. Thanks again for using and sharing Reading List!

Welcome to Reading List v2.5! Here's what's new in this update: PAUSING Mark the books you are reading as Paused, to let you accurately reflect your read time without affecting your stats. To pause a book, open the Update Read Log screen of a book that is started and tap Pause, or use the new action menu on the book details screen. You can add multiple pauses to a book, and can add pauses to each read log. CALENDAR PICKER When inputting a date (e.g. a start date), the app now defaults to showing a calendar picker, rather than a dial picker. This makes it easier to pick dates that are close to the current date. You can switch back to the dial by tapping the options button next to the date, and choosing Use Dial. The default setting can also be controlled in Settings -> General. CONVENIENT SEARCH When searching for a book already added to the app, if no results are found, a new "Search Online" button is shown, which will let you jump to the Search Online screen with your search pre-populated. OTHER FIXES There are many other smaller fixes and improvements made throughout the app, to keep it running smoothly and to prepare for upcoming features. I hope you enjoy this update! Reading List is developed by a single developer; please do send me any feedback you have to feedback@readinglist.app (I read them all). If you're enjoying the app please do leave a rating or review in the App Store. Happy reading!

This update includes further work to address an issue where Search Online or Scan Barcode would sometimes report "An Error Occurred". This issue is due to Google Books often becoming unavailable in the late hours of the day (California time). With this update, when Google Books is unavailable the app will instead search on Apple Books, so you are not blocked from adding books. Unfortunately this data doesn't include page count, so you may want to add this in manually when you start reading one of these books. Thanks for everyone's patience while I worked on resolving this issue, and thanks to everyone who helped in diagnosing this issue! I'll now get back to work on some new features for a future update. Happy reading :)
This update includes addresses an issue where Search Online or Scan Barcode would sometimes report "An Error Occurred". This issue is due to Google Books blocking most requests in the late hours of the day (California time). These errors should be less frequent after this update. If you still see them, please try again in a few hours. I will be working on a longer-term fix in due course. Thanks to everyone who has helped in diagnosing this issue! Happy reading :)
A few small bug fixes & improvements in this update: • Some work to help diagnose an issue where searching online would report that there is no Internet connection. If you are still seeing this error after updating, please get in touch! • Fixes an issue where the "Move to Top" and "Move to Bottom" actions would sometimes not show for books when viewing search results. • Adds a bottom toolbar which is shown when searching your library to allow Edit mode to be toggled. A more exciting update is coming soon!
A couple of bug fixes in this little update: • Fixes an issue which caused the alternative app icons settings page to show all of the icons as the default icon. • Fixes an issue where a book with an Unknown finish date and a full precision start date would result in incorrect calculation for the average-days-to-finish statistic. A more exciting update is coming soon!
Here's what's new in Reading List v2.4: GRID LAYOUT You can now display your books as a grid of cover images, for books in any of the read states or in any your lists. To enable, tap the Sort button on the right hand side, and choose the Grid display option. SORT OPTIONS Added a reverse order for most sort options. For example, you can now sort by Title Z-A, or by Date oldest to newest. Sort orders can be selected by tapping the Sort button in the right hand side – select the property to sort by, then select the chosen direction. SMART ALPHABETICAL SORT When sorting by Title, leading minor words like "a", "an" and "the" are now omitted from the sort. For example, "The Handmaid's Tale" would be sorted under H instead of T. This is enabled by default but can be disabled in Settings -> General -> Sort Options -> Minor Words. DRAG TO REORDER To reorder books when using the Custom sort order, you no longer need to enter Edit mode: you can just drag to reorder at any time. OTHER CHANGES & FIXES • v2.4.1 includes a fix to an issue which could cause the app to crash when using the search bar on a device with a large text size • The edit book notes screen would sometimes become glitchy when entering long text on certain devices. This should now be fixed; if you still encounter issues please let me know! • Lists can now be sorted by Start and Finish dates. • Multiple books can now be moved to the top or bottom in bulk when custom order is used. • Adds a setting to control whether books being currently read are included in the statistics calculations for pages read. • By default list sort orders are no longer synced over iCloud, allowing you to set the order independently per device. Syncing can be re-enabled in the iCloud Sync settings screen. • Fixed an issue which could cause the app to accumulate use more disk usage than it should, due to some temporary files not getting deleted. This should be better now, but there is also a new function to manually clear these out in Settings -> Help. • On Mac, the Paste book cover action was not working: this has been resolved. • The progress editor would show "Current Page" for a book marked as Did Not Finished: this has been corrected to "Stopped Page". • Fixed an issue where the current page was not being shown on the book details screen if the book did not have a page count added. • General stability improvements throughout. Thanks for using Reading List! If you enjoy the app, please consider leaving a rating or review in the App Store, or spread the word about the app. Happy reading!

Hello fellow readers and happy 2023! This update (v2.3.3) includes a few minor improvements and fixes: • The Pages Read count on the Stats screen now includes books marked as Not Finished, and the current page for in-progress books. • Cover images can now be pasted in place, making it easier to update a book's cover image. • Added a setting to cause new lists be added to the top, rather than to the bottom. • An assortment of minor accessibility improvements, including better reporting of selected items in menus. • Fixes (hopefully) a rare crash that was sometimes happening on iPads when attempting to enable iCloud Sync. Thank you to everyone who has written in with words of support or suggestions for improvements. I've got lots of plans for new features to come! If you are enjoying Reading List, please considering leaving a rating or review in the App Store to help spread the word. Happy Reading!
This update addresses an issue where the Notes editing screen could display incorrectly, obscuring the edited text. It also restores the contact email address that was accidentally missed off from the Help section, and adds more info about Free Trial expiry dates. Here's what's new in Reading List v2.3: Starting with v2.3, Reading List Pro is available as a subscription. All existing Pro users will retain their LIFETIME UNLOCK, forever: this change only applies to new purchases. Subscriptions allow app developers to ensure that they can fund the ongoing development and maintenance of an app, and also lets me reduce the upfront cost of Pro. I've tried to price Pro fairly – approximately the cost of a paperback book per year (exchange rates may vary) – and lifetime unlock is still available as an option (but with a price increase). FAMILY SHARING Reading List Pro can now be shared with family members using Apple Family Sharing. In a book-loving family? One purchase of Pro can be shared with them all! FREE TRIAL Now that Pro is available as a subscription, I can provide a free trial (something that isn't possible with a single purchase). If you haven't purchased Pro and want to try it out, get a week free with the yearly subscription. CHARTS On iOS 16, the Stats charts have improved appearance, and now allow you to see specific values by long pressing on the chart's bars. FAST PROGRESS UPDATE A few of you emailed in to tell me that you missed the removed behaviour of the app auto-highlighting the current progress value when opening the read log screen, to allow fast updates. This has been restored. There is an option to turn this behaviour back off if you wish, in Settings -> General. IMPROVED WIDGETS A new lock screen widget is available (the type that sits above the time on the lock screen), and existing widgets now show the progress percentage. OTHER FIXES This update contains a few bug fixes, including a fix to an issue that could cause the Stats screen to miss books that were finished on the final day of a month. I've also put a lot of work into background performance and stability improvements, helping Reading List run smoother and more reliably. If you enjoy using Reading List please consider leaving a rating or review. If you have any feedback, please email me at feedback@readinglist.app Happy reading!

This minor update contains a fix to an issue which could prevent the app from starting if updating from a very old version of the app. --- Version 2.2 includes some major new features I've been hard at work on for a while. I hope you like them! RE-READS This one has been wanted since v1.0. You can now add multiple read logs to a book, recording all your re-reads. Previous read-logs can be managed from a new interface in the Update Read Log screen. DID NOT FINISH Another popular request: support for marking a book as not-finished, if it was started and then abandoned. Each read log can be marked as Did Not Finish, in case a book took several attempts. You can also optionally record your stopped position. DATE PRECISION Can't remember exactly when you started / finished a book? Now you can log the read without the full date. Tap the little down arrow next to the date and choose a different precision (Year, Month) or choose Unknown to add the book without any dates at all. LOCK SCREEN WIDGETS (iOS 16 only) On iOS 16, you can now add Reading List widgets to the lock screen: quick shortcuts to add new books, and quick access to your currently reading book. BOOKSHOP.ORG The default link to purchase books has changed from Amazon to Bookshop.org, which supports local bookshops. Amazon can be added back if desired in Settings. Note: I may receive a commission for books purchased when following links from Bookshop.org. If you enjoy using Reading List please consider leaving a rating or review. Happy reading!
