Small, but important bug fixes: - Make sure that up-to-date target apps are available to be selected in Focus Filters. - Fixes an issue where turning on / off the Re-Intervention was not saved for individual target apps. - Push notification permission was not requested when setting up a delayed intervention. - App-based Max. Re-Intervention Time Interval was not permanently saved. - Re-Intervention would only allow you to choose 1 minute (or unlimited) in some rare cases. - Automations would not trigger, if the intervention for a target app had previously been turned off. Sorry about the inconvenience! On top of these bug fixes, this update of course also includes the big new features of the previous version: We’ve been working hard over the past year to offer two new intervention modes: - Delayed Intervention Mode: You can now set up a fixed delay after which the intervention should become active: so you can use a target app within boundaries (e.g. 2 minutes per hour) without getting interrupted - “Always ask” Intervention Mode: Every time you open a target app, you’ll be prompted to set the time you intend to spend on it, and only after the time has been consumed the target app will be shielded – and an intervention is required to unlock more time. These two new intervention modes have been highly requested features and are basically the “Re-Intervention without the initial breathing exercise”. We’ve run one scientific research project on this each with the Danish and German governments and are super happy with the results: This new mode is less frustrating while also being extremely effective in reducing time spent on target apps. one sec’s standard immediate intervention mode remains available unchanged, of course. On top of that, we’ve also improved many smaller aspects of one sec: - You can now add custom apps without knowing their URL schemes (but without that one sec can’t automatically open the target app unfortunately, so you have to proceed to the target app manually). - You can now set the Maximum Re-Intervention Time Interval on a per-app basis. - Intervention & Block Schedules now display the weekday selection in a localized manner (start of week). - Translation improvements throughout the app. - Lock time & time zone settings during strict blocks to prevent cheating. - LENGO integration accessibility improvements for voice over.

- Fixes an issue where the adult content detox feature could not be turned on in some rare cases. - Fixes an issue where opening a target app could be slow in some rare cases. - Fixes an issue where the Re-Intervention time interval picker would not work on right-to-left languages (e.g. Arabic, Hebrew). Sorry for the trouble!
Fixes a bug where the icon for “Saturday” was not visible in weekday-specific intervention schedules.
Fixes an issue where it was not possible to start a strict block session by tapping on a pre-defined time interval.
- Adds a new App Store preview video of one sec. - Adds a new research project.
- You can now directly add new apps to be used with the Focus Filter via the + button in the navigation bar top right. - Fixes an issue where the app could freeze when attempting to purchase a subscription that you already owned. On top of that, of course this version includes all improvements from yesterday’s update: - Fixes an issue where exporting journal entries would include the prompt twice instead of the actual text. - Adds a new option to Run Shortcuts directly from Healthy Alternatives. So you can directly trigger an action from another app, like playing your favorite playlist to calm down, or dumping your brain in your journaling app of your choice. - Fixes an issue where in some rare cases the wrong Structured task would’ve be displayed in the intervention. - Pre-select the current weekday when editing day-specific block / intervention schedules. - Fixes an issue where the Last-Use label was not updated when going through an Re-Intervention. - Adds the hex code of Structured colors / tasks into the Structured settings view. Keep breathing! Frederik

Sorry for the trouble! - Fixes an issue where websites that had already been added to one sec but turned off – could not be re-added via the safari extension. - Fixes an issue where the mirror intervention wouldn't display the camera feed in some edge cases. - Adds a warning that if more than 50 apps are selected in the screen time picker, it might lead to unexpected behavior. On top of that, bug fixes from the previous release: - Fixes an issue where randomized interventions would not work as expected. - Fixes an issue where the strict block setting was ignored in some cases. - Fixes an issue where Focus Blocks could prevent interventions of other target apps to be displayed. - Shows an error message when the block shield fails to be activated. If this happens multiple times in a row, it is recommended to reset one sec’s screen time permission. - Fixes an issue where custom phrases for the breathing intervention disappeared. They should now come back automatically. - Fixes an issue with the LENGO integration where the default vocabs would be re-added after deleting all vocabulary. - Fixes an issue where the LENGO intervention would not disappear when the app was moved to the background. - Re-adds the setting to increase the repetition count for the Rotate Phone intervention. - Fixes an issue where adding an app as exempted in a secondary block schedule could work around an ongoing strict block of the same app. - Fixes an issue where the Structured integration could lead to an endless loop of interventions. - Fixes an issue where the “Extra Long” option of the Structured integration was ignored. - Fixes an issue where promo codes wouldn’t be detected in some cases. It’s time to take a deep breath: INHALE 4s HOLD 4s EXHALE 4s HOLD 4s You have just completed a breathing technique called “box breathing”. It helps to release stress and re-focus. And might help even more to resist social media in that moment. We have added this breathing technique to one sec’s breathing intervention with this update — alongside 8 more advanced breathing techniques: New Features: * New breathing techniques as interventions: * Box Breathing * Cyclic Sigh * 4-7-8 breathing * Yogic breathing * Diaphragmatic breathing * Breath walking * Audible sigh * Paced breathing * Mindful breathing * New intervention gallery: select from a long list of pre-defined interventions. * New interactive intervention editor: it’s now easier than ever to customize the interventions to your needs. * Intention picker now contains more relatable default options. * You can now select to shuffle the intentions every time. * Breathing exercises now contain (optional) sound design. * Rotate Phone intervention can now optionally reflect the target app colors in the background as well. Improvements: * Fixes an issue where the early bird banner wouldn’t be displayed to applicable users. * Fixes an issue where the block schedule view wouldn’t display block intervals that span over midnight. * Updates the credits view of one sec. * Fixes an issue where one sec’s settings couldn’t be unlocked during an ongoing research study. * Fixes an issue (once again) where the Amazon app couldn’t be opened. * Fixes an issue where the Portuguese translation of one sec wouldn’t work. * Better separation on the app detail view between Stats / Customize. * Fixes an issue where Reddit would lose the current context after an intervention. * Adds Apple’s “Journal” app and “stoic.” to Healthy Alternatives options. * Removes logging the emotion based on the intention that’s selected when opening a target app. * Fixes an issue where the Emotion Tracking would pop up when going through a Re-Intervention (because in this case, the target app usage has actually not ended, the intention to continue to use the app is there). * Updates the tutorial for how to install and use the one sec Safari Extension. * Prevents you from editing blocked apps while a strict block schedule is active. Thanks a lot for using one sec! If you like the app and our mission, please consider leaving a review on the App Store :) Happy holidays & have a great start into 2025! – Frederik

Hey one sec users! It’s always relieving to fix bugs, thanks for reporting them! - Fixes an issue where intervening the Amazon App wouldn’t work. - Fixes an issue where the “Good Morning Countdown” wouldn’t work. - Fixes an issue where the Re-Intervention would be turned on when connecting apps for a different reason with the Screen Time API (e.g. for the Focus Filter). - Fixes an issue where the block schedule would not properly turn on / off blocking apps at specified times. Keep breathing, Frederik
Hello one sec users! This small update v3.12.1 fixes some important bugs: - Websites were not blocked during block schedule. - Translation improvements. - There’s a new explanation when you try to turn off a strict block schedule while it’s ongoing. On top of that, here’s everything that’s new in v3.12: Bug Fixes - Fixes issues related to app-specific intervention schedules: You can only add apps to one app-specific schedule (otherwise it would be quite confusing), this is now communicated properly in the user interface. On top of that, there was a bug which didn’t show apps when editing existing app-specific schedules. Thanks Sara for reporting the issue + helping me to debug this! - Fixes an issue where the Re-Intervention would not work for custom apps. - Fixes an issue where an ad-hoc block session started from control center could override an ongoing (strict) block session. - Fixes an issue where Structured colors would not match correctly with your iOS calendars and reminder lists. - Fixes an issue where all hours of a Scheduled Block would be selected when switching to a weekday-based schedule. Improvements - Block schedules are now blocked using Screen Time Shields as well – that means you can also select categories to be blocked. - Same applies to the Good Morning Countdown: It’s now using a HealthKit background API to be informed when you wake up. - You can now select to block “All apps” during a block session, scheduled block, or morning countdown. This is perfect for the full digital detox experience. - Adds new handling in case issues with the Screen Time API arise (Advanced Settings → Screen Time Glitches). - Renames the selection of "Default Apps" in one sec’s Block Shortcut to "Default Apps and Categories" for more clarity. - Adds a new explanation text in case Apple’s Screen Time app picker crashes. New - New “Random Text” intervention: forces you to type a 10 character random text in order to unlock your target apps (it’s super annoying!). - On top of apps, you can now add website URLs to be blocked as well – in a block session, scheduled blocks, or in your morning countdown. This works across all web-browsers on your iPhone or iPad (Safari, Chrome, Firefox…). Thanks a lot for using one sec! If you like the app and would like to support our work, please consider leaving a review on the App Store. Keep breathing, Frederik
Hello one sec users! After our big iOS 18 update last month, we took a deep breath…and decided to focus on bug fixes and long-awaited improvements with this update! Bug Fixes - Fixes issues related to app-specific intervention schedules: You can only add apps to one app-specific schedule (otherwise it would be quite confusing), this is now communicated properly in the user interface. Hey one sec users! Alongside the new iOS update there are new exciting features: - Block distractions with the click of one button: Introduces a new Control Center Toggle to start block sessions. This new toggle can be used on your Lock Screen and with the Action Button as well! - Integration with the Health app’s state-of-mind-tracking: one sec can now ask you for your current emotion after closing a target app. This helps to reflect on how app usage influences your mood. - Adds optimized app icons for dark mode and tinting which is a new feature on the Home Screen. - Utilizes new SwiftUI mesh gradients. - “Last pickup” Lock Screen widget timer is now using a new SwiftUI feature to display the time since last pickup without seconds. Don’t worry: even though this is a big update for everyone running the new iOS already, one sec remains compatible with older devices as well, because we believe everyone should have access to great screen time tools no matter which device you’re using. Thanks a lot for using one sec, your continuous support helps to make updates like this possible! – Frederik
This is just a small update, but it comes with some important bug fixes: - Improves reliability when healthy alternatives are displayed in intervention. - Improves reliability of Re-Interventions when triggered multiple times in a row. - Fixes an issue where the audio of the setup tutorial was played twice slightly delayed when starting the mini player. - Fixes an issue where the Dynamic Island timer could not be closed manually. - Fixes an issue where the block session would block all apps that were set up with the Shortcuts automation. - Fixes an issue where widgets wouldn’t be available on older iOS versions. - Fixes an issue where the LENGO intervention wouldn’t continue when “Always type intention” was selected. Thanks Abel for helping us debug this! Thanks a lot for using one sec! Your continuous support enables us to bring bug fixes and really cool new features to one sec :) – Frederik
- Important bug fix: the last update contained an info sheet that was accidentally displayed to all users, but it’s only relevant to users of the Re-Intervention feature. This is now correctly shown to only the relevant target group. Sorry for the confusion, you can continue to use one sec as before, there’s no change to how the normal breathing exercise works! - New alternative app icon picker. - Stops any ongoing Dynamic Island Timer in case the feature is being turned off. - Further improved Re-Intervention mechanism for higher reliability. - When resetting permission to Screen Time, state of the adult content blocker is preserved. - Fixes an issue where the selection of apps to block would always reset. - Fixes an issue where categories would always be blocked even though they were turned off. - Adds new illustrative icons for “Lock Shortcuts App” and “Lock Settings”. - Adds improved way to restore purchases (now asks for Apple ID sign in). - Optimizations for smaller screens (iPhone SE). Thanks a lot for using one sec! If you find the app helpful, please consider supporting my work by writing a review on the App Store. – Frederik
This update fixes an issue where the push notification workaround to trigger the Re-Intervention wouldn’t trigger up for some users. Sorry about that, hope it works now :)
- The biggest update for one sec’s Re-Interventions since introducing them: they are no longer in beta. That means we have fixed many bugs, and polished it. Unfortunately that also means that the “Intervention” button in the screen time shield can no longer open one sec directly. You rather have to tap a notification banner at the top after pressing the button. I know this is not 100% optimal, but (right now) there’s no way to ensure a reliable user experience otherwise. More infos within one sec when you go through your first Re-Intervention after the update. - Polished user interface for intervention schedule and block schedule. - Polished user interface for detail view for apps. - Dynamic Island Timer now looks great and is no longer in beta. - Adding beautiful illustrations for blocking shields, focus filter shields, the Re-Intervention, and at many other places throughout the app. - Fixed a bug where the one sec widget would show old information for some apps that haven’t been used in a while. - Adds a new secret feature. - Slightly reorganizing some settings. - You can now lock one sec’s settings – so you can‘t cheat by modifying the intervention schedule or so. Currently in beta, excited to hear your feedback! This update also includes the mandatory performance improvements and bug fixes ;) If you like one sec, please consider taking one minute to leave a review on the App Store. Thanks a lot! – Frederik
Another small, but important bug-fix update: This update fixes an issue where on iOS 16 and earlier the “Closing Automation” and “Start Block Session” Shortcut would not work anymore. This time it’s not my fault, it’s something that Apple has acknowledged in their release notes (including a workaround which I have now applied in this update, see FB13664020): https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode-release-notes/xcode-15_3-release-notes Sorry for the inconvenience!
Some users have been reporting issues with the one sec widgets in the last update. Sorry about that! This update should fix that. And if you haven’t checked out the widgets so far: one sec has three amazing widgets you should give a try (now that they work again ;) ): 1. The “Last Pickup” lock screen widget: shows which app you used last and how long ago. 2. Statistics Widget: Time spent + open attempts for the last 24hrs. 3. Block Session Widget: Start block sessions right from your Home Screen. Sorry for the bug! – Frederik
- You can now hide apps / websites from Overview. - You can now modify the text that is displayed in app closing reminder notifications. - You can now set up different breathing exercise phrases for each target app. - Improves Safari browser extension. - Improves translations and localizations. - Streamlined setup for the Re-Intervention feature. - You can now connect apps to be shielded by Screen Time during “Block Sessions” and “Focus Filters”. - You can now select + delete all vocabulary in the LENGO integration. - You can now add custom urls to the adult content detox. - General bug fixes and improvements. If you like one sec, please leave a review on the App Store :) Thanks a lot for your tremendous support! – Frederik

NEW INDIE APP COLLAB: - Learn vocabulary before you can continue to social media. - Possible thanks to the new LENGO app collab (import vocabulary lists, and track progress). - To enable go to one sec → Customize → LENGO Integration. I really hope you like this new feature, I found it very useful! Bug fixes and small improvements: - iPad can now be used in landscape again. Resolves an issue where one sec would crash unexpectedly when 7Mind was selected as a Healthy Alternative. Sorry about that!
Fixes an issue with setting up the Structured integration on iOS 17. A new calendar permission “Full Access” is required, that is now properly requested. If you failed to set up the Structured integration in the past, please try again with the latest version of one sec!
This is just a small update bringing: - localization improvements - tutorial screenshot improvements - improved video tutorials to cover slight changes in the setup process - if you chose to type your intention with every app open attempt, the continue button is now greyed out until you have actually typed something Thanks a lot for using one sec! – Frederik

Noteworthy announcement to conclude the update notes: Our study with the Max Planck Institute has been published under “open access”, so you can now read the whole thing without university VPN: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2213114120 I really hope you enjoy all these improvements of one sec and I can’t wait to share what we’re working on right now! – Frederik PS: In the following, I’m listing all apps that have been added/changed to one secs default list of apps to intervene: - Renames Twitter to “Twitter / X”. - Meta’s new Threads app - AppleTV - HBO Max - ABC News - Amazon Kindle - AOK Bonus - Artifact Personalized News - Badoo - Bandcamp, - Bing - Bluesky - Calculator# - CIV6 - DEGIRO - Deliveroo - Delta Investment Tracker - Depop, - Diseny Hotstar - Dragon Ball Legends - Files App - Financial Times - Finanzguru - Finshots - Gardenscapes - Glovo - Google Analytics - Google News - Google Sheets - Grasshopper - GROWLr - Handelsblatt - Happy Clinic - HATSUNEMIKU - HSBC - ING Investing - Kakaotalk - Le Monde - LOL Wild Rift - Legends of Runeterra - Liga Insider - Mail Online Daily News - mBankNet - mDenarnic, - Microsoft ToDo - Muzz - PayPal - PayPal Business - Photos App - Privé - Rappi - Retro Bowl - RTL+ - Scalable Capital - Shopify - Spotify for Artists - Substack - Sudoku.com - Sweat Wallet - Atlantic Magazine - The Football Club - The League - New York Times Audio - The New Yorker - The Office - Tower War Tactical Conquest - Truth Social - Varsity - Apple Wallet - Walmart - Web.de - Wordle - Workplace - Wall Street Journal - Yahoo Mail - Zalando - ZohoDesk - ZohoMail - Zomato - Zynga Poker - 小红书 - Ninja Must Die - 闲鱼
Fixes an issue where the "always type intention" option would end up in an endless loop when opening an app. Sorry about the trouble!
- Fixes an issue where the permission for “Don’t get lost notifications” wasn't asked for. - Fixes an issue where “Github” and “FIFA Companion” would not appear in the list of apps to be intervened by one sec. - Fixes an issue where one sec would crash when the device was set to French during the setup. Also, of course, includes the improvements from the small update 3.4.1: - Fixes an issue where a block session wouldn't be displayed correctly. - Fixes an issue where one sec would crash on iOS 14.4 and earlier.
Journal with joy: join the journey with one sec’s new journaling intervention: - If enabled, the journaling intervention will prompt you to write 25 words the first time you open social media in the morning (and in the evening). Otherwise, you’ll see the normal intervention. - You can also directly start a new journal entry from the “Good Morning Countdown” or healthy alternatives. - Like all data in one sec, your journal entries are stored on your device (and in your private iCloud container), I cannot access them. - Journaling, and reflecting on your emotions and what you’re thankful for is a very healthy habit that sparks happiness (according to science)! I hope that one sec disrupting a bad habit can help to spark new, positive habits in your life. That’s why I created this feature. ◆ How to enable the new Journaling Intervention ◆ Go to one sec settings → "Healthy Habits" and you’ll be able to enable morning / evening journaling interventions. Force yourself to journal, reflect on your feelings the first time you open an app after waking up—and again in the evening before going to bed. You can also always add entries to your journal via the "Healthy Alternatives" within interventions. ◆ Journal Emotion Explorer ◆ On top of that, I’ve added an “emotion explorer” into the Journaling Intervention. I know it can be hard sometimes to figure out the (complex) emotions that we feel, and I believe structuring them can help a bit to navigate and identify the right ones. ◆ Journal Prompt Generator ◆ Depending on the context, the journal can optionally display prompts: - Morning Reflection - Evening Reflection - Mid-Week Reflection - Week Reflection - Month Reflection ◆ Journal History ◆ You can see all journal entries in one sec → customize → Journaling → History. It’s such a cool thing to read the entries of your past self – even if it’s just two weeks ago. …and there is even more: ◆ Sync with Structured: adding Colors! ◆ You can now adapt one sec’s intervention behavior based on the color of ongoing, unfinished tasks in Structured. Please make sure you have both the latest Structured & one sec version installed to make this work. You can find the new options in one sec → customize → Structured. ◆ Some small improvements and bug fixes ◆ - Fixes an issue where the one sec Safari Extension wouldn’t block apps during active block sessions while the intervention schedule was off. - You can now allow BeReal to be opened once per day without intervention. - You can now edit app-specific settings at the bottom of each app statistics. - Fixes an issue where the Intention Picker wouldn’t be shown for the “Follow the Dot” intervention. - Fixes an issue where the status bar and the outer progress indicator wouldn’t be visible for apps with a complete dark background (e.g. BeReal) during the “Follow the Dot” intervention. - Fixes an issue where the iOS Safari Extension would state that it’s set up with one sec even through you’ve pressed cancel. I really hope you enjoy these big + small improvements! — Frederik

Announcing the biggest collab in AppStore history!! one sec now integrates with Structured, an app made by my friend and fellow indie dev, Leo Mehlig. **Structured** is a planner app that visualizes your tasks in a beautiful timeline of your day. I’ve been working hard for the last 10 weeks on this update for one sec. Indeed, there have been so many improvements that I decided to jump to the next major version: one sec 3.0 is here! NEW APP ICON To celebrate the launch of this big update, we’ve designed a new app icon for one sec: showcasing the brief moment of reflection of your habits, disrupting your app usage patterns. We’re now making use of the new gradient in the app icon throughout the app as well – and added a new primary color for buttons and highlights. NEW EXERCISES - Rotate Phone: very annoying, because you have to physically rotate your device three times in order to unlock the app. My idea is also, that additional senses (using your hands, haptics) makes you more aware and helps to disrupt habits. - Black screen: Fades out into black, and takes some time to come back to let you continue into the app. - Minimal breathing: Reduces colors, optimized for dark mode. NEW STATISTICS - Much improved app stats page. - You have now a better overview about your progress. - one sec now shows how much time it has already saved you. - Prediction for how much time you’ll save per year (at your current pace). NEW: HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES Get concrete and actionable healthy alternatives when opening social media apps: - Add sports, hobbies, and well-being activities. - Add close friends and family contacts to get suggestions to call or text them. - Add photo albums to get suggestions to take a look at nice memories and pictures of loved ones. - Get reading suggestions from one sec‘s reading list. - Connect one sec with your calendar and reminders to help you get more structured. - Get suggestions for good apps, such as eBook readers, podcasts, music, yoga, meditation. NEW: MORNING COUNTDOWN one sec won’t let you access configured apps directly after waking up (integrates with HealthKit). ADVANCED SCHEDULING - you can now change one sec’s schedule for each weekday. - New Siri Shortcut for Focus Mode. REFINED DESIGN - Restructured + regrouped settings panel (incl. privacy + data tab). - More granular settings for each configured app and website. - New exercise picker, giving a visual preview of what to expect. OPTIMIZED TUTORIALS - Setup and App Closing Tutorials: send the tutorial to your own email address or AirDrop them to your computer. - Redesigned setup / tutorial pages including screenshots. - New tutorial videos. - New suggestions feed (including setup + closing tutorials). IMPROVED SAFARI EXTENSION - Safari extension now works as expected. Give it a try for your web distractions! - You can now manually add additional domains to block / or allow for the web extension. …and even more: - Added database export option in advanced settings. - Further improvements of iPad user experience. - Added new apps and websites: “Firefox Klar”, “Firefox Focus”, “NOS nieuws”
- Adds Safari Extension: You can now use one sec with Safari on your iPhone and iPad. - Adds Focus Sessions: You can now configure focus sessions to fully focus – without letting you open your apps. - Adds new home screen widget: You can now see summary information for the last 24hrs of phone usage directly on your home screen. - For apps with bright colors (e.g. Snapchat: Yellow), the status bar is now displayed in black color be be more readable. - You can now set alternative app icons on iPad. - Adds new apps: MyDealz and Zeit Online - New overview stats in each app: Last 24hrs + Total numbers
- Fixes an issue on iPad where the purpose selection popup wouldn‘t work anymore. - Adds built-in support for AppStore app, Apple Store app, and Redfin app. - More options for app closing reminders: 1 min, 3, 5, 10, and 15 mins.
- Adding a much-requested feature: better charts + visualisations for your history of app-opening attempts! You can now select different time intervals (week / month / year) and scroll through your history of data, viewing the ups and downs of your app usage. - Get a reminder notification after 3 minutes: are you still following your intention? As a reminder, those features are available in one sec pro: - Configure with unlimited apps - Quick app-switching - Additional exercises - Scheduling - Alternative app icons - Configure with custom apps - Detailed charts & visualisations - Reminder Notifications to close apps after 1 to 5 minutes
