Updates merch link
Updates metadata and in-app details to more accurately reflect the nature of this app being in a "historic/commemorative" state, but still with the option to unlock wallpapers if you so choose
Adds an option to download all wallpapers rather than having to do it individually. Also adds an option to sign up to be notified for my Next Thing™!
Apollo has now closed down, this update pushes out a few fixes to make everything a bit nicer in that state, so explore around! - Adds ability to migrate your Apollo Pixel Pals to the new separate Pixel Pals app, and even includes a fun easter egg if you do so. If you're not familiar with Pixel Pals, it's a really fun app that lets you customize your iOS device with a variety of cute virtual pets. It'd really mean a lot to me if you checked it out and considered supporting it! - Added a bunch more wallpapers to the "Goodbye Apollo" Wallpaper Set. It's available in Settings, and is a great way to remember Apollo for years to come with some incredible wallpapers by the amazing designers who have created Apollo's icons over the years. - If you have time left on your subscription, you have the option to go to the Settings tab and decline the automatic refund. Developers pay refunds out-of-pocket, so your kindness and consideration would mean a lot to me there given how unexpected the last few weeks have been. Cancelling your subscription in the Settings app isn't enough, you also have to manually decline the refund in Apollo if you so choose. As the hour gets closer the app will change automatically to no longer being able to browse Reddit, but you'll still be able to open it and customize the home screen app icons with the over 100 incredible icons added over the years. Pixel Pals migration, wallpapers, merch, and more are also available, as well as the possibility of another fun easter egg revealing itself. I feel like I've said it a lot over the last few weeks, but I feel so, so fortunate that I've been able to build an app over the last 9 years alongside such an incredible community who helped me to shape the app for the better. I've met and talked with so many cool people, and the app is infinitely better than it was from the outset because of it. I'm heartbroken it's ending this way, but I've loved every minute of building this app for you folks and wouldn't have done a thing differently. Love y'all. - Christian

This update for Apollo includes a few important features: - Apollo closes on June 30th, if you have time left in your subscription, this update allows you to decline a refund on the remaining subscription time. If you don't decline the refund, you will automatically receive a pro-rated refund for the remaining time. If you've been happy with the service I've provided over the years, please consider declining the refund as they are refunded out-of-pocket. I thank you! - Added a "Goodbye Apollo" Wallpaper set. If you want to remember Apollo for years to come after its shut down date, and support its creator one last time, consider checking out the incredible set of Apollo themed wallpapers, created by talented designers who have built Apollo icons over the years. - I've unlocked all the icons in the app for everyone, and even added over a dozen new ones that I had planned to continue adding over the next year plus. Also themes are now available for all. I have another update coming for the end of the month that adds some additional cool features, so stick around and keep browsing until the curtain closes! If you're unclear about why Apollo is closing, Reddit recently announced some very, very expensive API prices for developers, and in combination with only providing 30 days to enact the changes, Apollo won't be able to afford continuing beyond Reddit's cutoff date of June 30th, 2023. There are more details in the ApolloApp subreddit if you're curious. As mentioned through the in-app announcements, it's been the pleasure of a lifetime building Apollo for you over the last 9 years. I thank you so much for your kindness, input, and generosity over the years. - Christian
Added tip jar back in app for those interested!
Quick update that fixes a crash that could occur on launch for some folks.
A brand new icon that harkens back to an earlier period in iOS icon design, as well as some nice bug fixes. Beyond that the rest is in the next big juicy update. :)
A brand new icon that harkens back to an earlier period in iOS icon design, as well as some bug fixes. Beyond that the rest is in the next big juicy update. :)
Fixes a bug where flair could be rendered weirdly when displaying a right-to-left language.
Fixes a few small bugs, namely the new comments tracker not showing up for some users, as well as an issue with the media viewer where when you tried to zoom the media would also zoom but zoom away in a random direction.
In addition to the changes below, this update fixes a few small bugs folks pointed out. # New Comments Highlightifier (May need to enable under Settings tab > General > Show Unread Comments) If you read a thread, and then encounter it again later, in your feed Apollo will show a count of how many comments have been added since you last viewed it, and when viewing the thread, it will highlight the new comments. This is really handy for coming back to a thread later and seeing what you missed out on. # Easter Sale Just for this short Easter period you can grab Apollo Ultra lifetime at a discounted rate! ## Richer Title Flair Some subreddits elect to have images and icons in their title flair to better represent a specific flair (like "Happy News" with a smiley face or something), and before Apollo would just show this as a text approximation (for instance,), now the imagery is fully rendered right into the title! # New Icons Some of my favorite new home screen icons in awhile. Featuring an absolutely gorgeous set of icons by Adam Whitcroft, an adorable Easter themed icon by Matthew Skiles, and a really cool, kinda spooky icon by s4pete. # New Pixel Pals Added three adorable new Pixel Pals! We have a T-Rex named Rory, Freya the Butterfly, and Kermy the Borzoi. # Other - No longer supports iOS 14. iOS 14 has had miniscule usage in Apollo for awhile now, and as of recently it dipped to well below 1% of users, so this version requires iOS 15 or newer. Having a newer baseline iOS version means devs are able to use newer iOS features (for instance every year there's really awesome advancements to SwiftUI) that make development easier/faster - Revamped the Settings screens a little, in addition to how it looks I also moved the Themes option into the "Appearance" section to reduce confusion - New icons - Should fix bug with home feed showing same old content from when you were signed out - If you select a paid feature Apollo now prompts you to unlock Ultra. This is an attempt to simplify because of confusion around the dual offerings (Pro and Ultra) in Apollo, where it'll hopefully be more simple/obvious what to unlock if you simply want everything in the app, which is better for most users than "buy this, then this". (Pro is still available to purchase though and can be done so through Settings) - Changed the icon for "Best" sort, firstly to somewhat commemorate a change in how the Best algorithm works in Apollo, and secondly because it's the primary sort icon that Apollo users are exposed to, and I've had a ton of feedback over the years that the trophy icon is not at all clear for "tap this to sort" - Open in Apollo Safari extension now works properly with old Reddit as well - If you have the option enabled to automatically collapse AutoModerator, Apollo will now properly collapse the comment even if it's not stickied - Revamped the live comment sort a little, so it should be faster and work even better - Exclude Subscriptions from Feed now works not only with r/All, but with r/Popular as well - Related to the previous item, added an option in Settings to always enable subscribed subreddit exclusion from r/All and r/Popular, so you don't have to manually enable it each time - Fixed a bug with Wikipedia preview parsing for non-English languages # Thank You I really hope you enjoy the update! Thank you for using Apollo! - Christian

[.17 fixes a Reddit bug with Home feed not loading if sort is set to Best by temporarily changing default sort to Hot for Home feed until Reddit fixes bug. If you're not having issues loading Best sort, feel free to change it back as the default sort in Settings.] This update to Apollo brings the ability to save posts and comments to specific categories (so you can sort by your “tech”, “animals”, or "interior design", for instance, and even create completely custom categories) that are cloud-synced across your devices! There's also incredibly gorgeous new icons, and a bunch of new Pixel Pals (parrot, panda, platypus, and a tiger!) so you can have even more cute options for friends while you scroll, as well as some handy bug fixes (like around trending subreddits) and tweaks to make everything even nicer and smoother. This version also adds inline thumbnails to inline images in comments, plus a few to the saved category banner that could sometimes not disappear, and also added the option to turn off saved categories if you're not interested in the new feature.

This update brings two really awesome additions to Apollo: # Live Activities You probably know this as the cool new Dynamic Island feature launching today with iOS 16.1, but it also works on prior phones by showing the Live Activity on the lock screen as well! With this Apollo update you can go to a specific thread, and select "Start Live Activity" and Apollo will monitor a thread for you and show you (live!) recent comments as they come in, either right in your Dynamic Island, or right on your lock screen. This is legitimately so handy for things like TV episode discussion threads, so you can see what people are saying as things happen in the show, or just for following an interesting thread that caught your eye. It's now now so easy to stay on top of things. # Pixel Pals for All! Even if you don't have the latest and greatest phone, with this update you can now use Pixel Pals within Apollo! Instead of living in the Dynamic Island area, they live atop the little "home indicator" at the bottom of your phone, cutely going about their activities as you browse Reddit. You can tap on them to feed or play with them (which increases their hearts), or even rename them! If you're looking for even more to do with them, I also (today!) launched a separate Pixel Pals app, where you can do cool things like have a Pixel Pal with you even outside the app, doing its cute little things in your Dynamic Island, or on your lock screen! There's also transparent widgets, so you can make them cleanly blend in with your lock screen. The app is just called "Pixel Pals" and can be found under my developer account! # Bug Fixes! What's an update without some bug fixes? Folks reported a few weird crashes around videos, and some odd behavior on newer devices, so everything should be just a bit more spic and span with this update. For those who got the Pixel Pals app early, there was briefly an early potential sync issue of your Pixel Pals stats between the two apps. If you noticed any issue with your Pixel Pal stats in Apollo (you might not have at all), update the Pixel Pals app (new version just released) and tap your Pixel Pal in Apollo to bring up its stats screen, then long-press on the hearts, this will give you a one-time option to update the stats. # Thank You Hope you enjoy the update and new app and have an amazing week! More great things to come! - Christian

[The .2 fixes an issue with lock screen widgets sometimes appearing blank and a notifications badge issue] Scrumptious Apollo build today, with a buttery new iOS version exterior and an also yummy interior full of detailed improvements and bug fixes! Read on! # Lock Screen Widgets! Apollo has a variety of lock screen widgets to keep you covered and up to date. - Trending post widget: choose a subreddit and the lock screen widget will cycle through trending posts throughout the course of the day. - Distance scrolled widget: Shows the total distance you’ve scrolled in Apollo as a handy lock screen widget! (More details on this feature below.) - Karma widget: at a glance see how your magic internet points are doing! - Inbox widget: see if you have any unread items in Apollo that you might want to take a peak at! - Most recent post widget: shows how your most recent post is doing, in terms of upvotes and comments. - Most recent comment widget: similar to the previous one, but shows how your most recent comment is doing! - Subreddit shortcut widget: what it says on the tin! Quickly jump from your lock screen to your favorite subreddit of your choosing with a tap! Weeeee! - Random subreddit widget: quickly go on an adventure to a random subreddit! # Live Text If someone posts a picture or video with some interesting text on it, Apollo can now analyze the image and let you select any of that text and interact with it. This is so handy for saving some text, sharing, copying a recipe, or even translating a meme in a foreign language! And it works for videos too, just pause the video and select the text you want to interact with! # Weather (Yeah!) Yeah that’s right, that vegetable app isn’t the only one that can do weather! If "Subreddit Weather" is enabled in Apollo, if you navigate to a city’s subreddit (like r/Toronto, r/Perth, r/London, r/Denver, r/SaoPaulo, etc.) at the top of the subreddit Apollo will now show you that city’s weather, as well as the current time at that location. It’s pretty cool, when visiting some subreddits I feel more in tune with what’s going on there now. This uses Apple’s new, really cool WeatherKit framework. # Gorgeous Icons New icons, duh! # Scroll Distance Stats This has been a funny one that’s been requested for a long time, and I thought it would be a fun one to add with this update. Now Apollo will keep track of how far you’ve scrolled (perhaps dozens of miles/kilometers?), and let you view it at any time by going to Settings tab > About > Stats, or by adding the lock screen widget! It’ll display it in your distance unit of choosing, and even let you set goals, and compare the distance to popular other measurements to give you a point of reference! # Lots of Other Nice Fixes and Improvements - If a post has both a link and text Apollo will display both now - Fixed an issue where some videos would not play for some folks with specific network conditions - Fixed an issue with stalled GIF playback - Added quick option to jump to Search tab by long-pressing the Apollo home screen icon - Fixed bug where when tapping on a message notification it wouldn’t open the actual message - Fixed bug where awards could get cut off when viewing - If "Open in YouTube" is selected, channels will open there as well - Fixed issue where you could dismiss a post you were composing without confirmation - Fixed bug where "Expired" could show up in Settings items weirdly - Fixed bug where sharing some posts with certain characters could cause a crash - Other small tweaks and improvements here and there based on feedback! - Fixed bug where tapping on a notification could clear other notifications I really hope you enjoy this update! Having a juicy new update that takes advantage of the new iOS goodies each fall has become a fun tradition. :) - Christian

This update includes some absolutely amazing additions, featuring insane new notifications, brand new gorgeous, never-before-seen icons, and a big ol' group of awesome improvements and bug fixes across the board. Read on! - Brand new, completely redesigned notification experience - Introducing custom subreddit watchers. Incredibly powerful, you can now create filters and have Apollo watch for interesting content in your favorite subreddits, and get a notification as soon as a matching post exists. So you'll never again miss out on a fascinating discussion about your favorite character Mark in your favorite TV show subreddit, or about PS5 or Xbox sightings in your city's subreddit, or about the squirrels being posted in r/aww. It's so unbelievably handy. - Trending subreddit posts. With a tap you can turn on trending post notifications for subreddits of your choosing, so when a post in your favorite subreddit does super well, Apollo will send you a little notification to brighten your day - Remind Me In… tired of summoning "remind me bots" in comments? Version 1.12.2: This update improves an open in Apollo issue, as well as a few other small issues. Version 1.12.1: Here's an update with some handy bug fixes and improvements based on great feedback from the Christmas update. Read on! + A new, really cool icon from Yannick Lung. It's of the Apollo mascot in an old school scuba suit by the incredible Yannick Lung, and I love how the details really make it feel like an icon from a nostalgic era of time passed. Have been enjoying it a lot on the ol' home screen. + Improvements to table rendering. Thanks y'all for sending in some great examples of tables that (alongside Apollo's new inline table renderer) weren't quite displaying properly, so I've tidied those all up so they should display gorgeously now. + Also tweaked layout algorithm a bit so that some tables that were a bit cramped should display nicer now. + Fixed bug where the "Quote" option in "Select Text" mode and in the comment composer wouldn't show up. + Fixed bug where the subscriber count and number of currently active accounts wasn't showing up in the sidebar (and also added the short subreddit description to the top of it). + Fixed bug where some links wouldn't be tappable or only the subreddit/user part would be if it was a Reddit link. + Fixed a bug where tapping on some user or subreddit links could jump you into the browser/out of Apollo rather than staying in the app (same with Wikipedia links, fixed too). + Fixed bug where preview text (like for a text post in a subreddit, or underneath an Inbox item) was too dark, made it a bit lighter like before so as to blend in better + Fixed a bug with some escaped Markdown characters and those inside code blocks. + Fixed a bug around newlines/line breaks in Markdown. + Fixed a bug where sometimes you could get a duplicate notification. + Fixed bug where text in private messages could be visually hard to read due to low contrast. + If you tap on a link to u/me, it'll properly load your profile now. + Added option in Settings tab > General to share Reddit links as their "old.reddit" version. + Fixed bug where Apollo was mean to usernames with hyphens in them. + Fixed bug where when comments loaded self text could refresh/flash in a non-cool way. + Fixed bug where couldn't select the title of the post in "Select Text" mode. + If you tap on a timestamped YouTube video it will now open to that time. + Limits comment link previews to 5. + Fixed bug where subreddit rules could get cut off at the top slightly. + Flattened large groups of newlines in a comment/post into just two. + Fixed bug where code blocks could get cut off at the bottom. + Fixed bug where widgets would not show up on iOS 14. + A fix for a crash that could occur on iOS 12 devices. Really sorry about that one, strange bug that was but everything should be in tip top shape now. As a note, after this update (1.12.1) Apollo will likely require iOS 14 and higher for further updates. You'll still be able to run Apollo on iOS 12 and 13 just as you were before, but new updates will require iOS 14 and higher. Statistically very few Apollo users are still on these older versions (well under 1% of users) and the work to maintain these older versions and put off using nice, newer iOS features in full (SwiftUI, SceneDelegate, Combine, Swift Concurrency, etc.) is beginning to get a bit tough to maintain given the small userbase (and I'm just one person building this app), so I figure now's a good a time as for iOS 14 to become the base. Hope that's understandable. Hope these first two weeks of 2022 have served you well, and if not, well I endeavour to make the rest happier through Apollo updates! - Christian

Merry Christmas!! Santa has arrived with a bug full of Apollo updates for you to enjoy! HO HO HO! + Added three awesome new icons! First, you've been visited by Santapollo, created by the perpetually ingenious Matthew Skiles and depicts our jolly Father Christmas as if he was the Apollo mascot. Second, we have Broby, a beautifully hand made depiction of our Apollo mascot made by u/burkybang’s 5 year old son. Yes three, icons! + New Markdown renderer using Apple's new efficient library. Loads comments even faster, and brings benefits like inline table rendering (finally!), syntax highlighted code blocks, better list rendering, and more! + Improved SidebarViewController to use the new renderer as well, so sidebars load richer with tables inline, links open in Apollo, etc. + Improved the viewing of random subreddits with r/random in Apollo. Now it loads even faster, and you can simply pull down to refresh and it'll load you a new subreddit each time, even remembering which sort you had set + If you long-press on a link the context menu will now have a quick Open in Browser option (thanks u/2-718!) + Added inline Wikipedia previews to comments, including a thumbnail and brief article preview, so you can get a gist of what the article is about without having to summon one of the wiki bots. + Added Dracula theme (thanks u/IsoPhoenix!) + Added Mint theme (thanks u/BobQuentok!) + Fixed bug where on some iPads in comments for a post with a GIF they would lag badly when scrolling, update iOS to make doubly sure though (thanks u/cats-lock!) + Fixed bug where some linked posts in Apollo would just try to load the Reddit homepage because they had weird symbols in their URLs (thanks u/BasementDweller3000!) + You can now zoom in further on images, even if low res (ENHANCE!) + Fixed issue where sometimes the media viewer could think you were zoomed in a hair and be hard to swipe to dismiss + If you compose a comment and type an author, it'll now offer to autocomplete the actual post's author as well. + You can now easily add subreddits to a specific multireddit directly from your list of subreddits + Polls are now properly accessible to VoiceOver + You can now scrub YouTube videos to go forward and backward in time easily if you have Apollo Pro + If Apollo shows a tweet and the user is verified, there will be a little checkmark icon now + Option to hide the subreddit when choosing Share as Image + Fixed bug where when Sharing as Image the comments could appear out of order + Removed legacy modmail option as Reddit no longer supports + Added accessibility labels to all app icons and themes, so now if you're curious what an app icon or theme looks like and are using VoiceOver, it will describe it to you + Fixed bug where YouTube player wouldn't work well with Low Power Mode + New Chumbus content + Command/Control-F style "Find in Comments" search now also searches the post's text as well if present + Fixed issue where if a gallery/album's first item liked to a YouTube video it would try to open that + Improved "Select Text Mode" + Fixed issue where sometimes albums could be hard to scroll between + Updated Gfycat API + Fixed a potential crash when running on Apple silicon Macs + Added a Doomscroll Defeater™ which if turned on will disable infinite scrolling and allow you to choose to load the next page each time (in Settings it's just called "Infinite Scrolling" on/off) + Properly matches Reddit's recent changes to collapsing blocked users + Improved comment composer preview + Mods can comment on locked posts now + Fixed a GIF download crash + If a comment is collapsed, the username and score is now untappable so you don't tap accidentally + Added a better indicator if you manage to reach the end of a subreddit's available posts + Crossposts now match the subreddit they're posted to's content settings Hoping you all have the happiest of holidays, and I can't wait to show you what I have cooking for 2022. :) - Christian
Here's a quick little update with some quality of life/bug fixes, and two new icons! - Improvements to SharePlay support (requires iOS 15.1 and greater), if you elect not to use it for the FaceTime call Apollo will remember that and not prompt you continually (appreciate the feedback there!). Also includes a banner when highlighting comments to other participants. - Two new icons! The first is a terrific icon named Dr. Spaceman by Jeff Broderick. The second is a beautiful icon named N.E.L.S.O.N. by Gavin Nelson. Together the two icons make an excellent pair. :) - Fixed a crash that could occur on Apple silicon Macs - Fixed an issue with keyboard navigation on iPad - Christian
